8 ways to prepare our delicious local chicken breasts
Whether you’ve purchased our classic boneless skinless chicken breasts or are enjoying our pasture-raised chicken breasts while they’re still available for the season, you’re in for a great meal. Ontario poultry is tender and delicious, and there are countless ways to prepare it for a delicious lunch or dinner. Here are some suggestions the whole family will love—we hope to see you in store soon or serve you online. Seasoned and grilled
For a quick and easy meal that never fails, add one of our seasoning blends to fresh or completely thawed chicken breasts, then grill it outdoors on your BBQ. You can grill fresh local vegetables on the other half of the BBQ or prepare a quick salad while your chicken is cooking. If you plan this meal ahead of time, marinate your chicken in one of those seasoning blends with a little bit of olive oil. This will add even more flavour and result in incredibly tender chicken!
In a kebab
Chicken kebabs are delicious, fun and easy to prepare. They also grill quickly because the meat has been cut into bite-sized pieces. You can marinate your chicken ahead of time or simply add seasonings before you grill (we recommend our Mediterranean spice blend, which is good on vegetables as well as poultry or pork). Soak your skewers well then build kebabs using your chicken, some large chunks of red onion, thick-cut zucchini and bell peppers. Haloumi cheese is a great addition to any kebab (or a nice meat replacement, if you have vegetarian guests). And yes, we offer them pre-made for your convenience if you’d like a delicious kebab without the prep work!
Slow-cooked to perfection
We simply love chicken that’s been prepared to tender perfection in a slow cooker. You can keep things simple by adding a prepared sauce or spice blend, or go with a recipe like this one. No slow cooker at home? You can get a similar result by slow-roasting poultry in your oven (a dutch oven is ideal, but a roasting pan also works). Finish the meal by making some rice or buttered egg noodles and a side of fresh green peas.
In a sheet pan meal
Sheet pan meals are popular because they’re quick, tasty and easy to switch up as needed—if you don’t have an ingredient that’s listed in the recipe, you can probably substitute something else from your fridge or pantry. Stir-fried with veggies
Stir-frys are a great weeknight meal because they come together quickly and pack a big punch of flavour. Whether you enjoy your stir fry over rice or noodles, you know it’s going to be good. The spice level is up to you! Here’s a recipe for garlic-ginger chicken stir fry to get you started.
In a classic casserole
Almost everyone can think of a casserole that was a regular part of their childhood dinner rotation—chicken broccoli rice, perhaps?—and with good reason. Casseroles are hearty, comforting and easy to throw together in a single dish. In your favourite soups and stews
You may not be thinking about hot soups and stews in the middle of summer, but don’t count them out. A classic chicken stew with a fresh roll is always a good idea—plus, the leftovers are perfect for lunch the next day. Here’s a delicious recipe that uses boneless skinless chicken breasts. If you’ve got fresh herbs growing in your summer garden, soups and stews are an excellent way to use them!
In a Mexican-style dish
Because chicken is so versatile, it works in a number of Mexican and ‘Tex Mex’ recipes. Try making some mouth-watering chicken enchiladas, chicken tacos, chicken and rice burritos, chicken quesadillas and other great options. Don’t forget the guacamole and tortilla chips! (And maybe a cold beer or margarita.)
One last note: don’t forget to get creative with your leftovers! We love using leftover chicken in wraps and sandwiches or sliced over a crunchy green salad.
