Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with these delicious meals
Whether you’re Irish or not, there’s something wonderful about gathering with loved ones to enjoy delicious, high quality, shareable food—especially if it’s made with Ontario beef and other local products. Here are some delicious meal ideas for St. Patrick’s Day (green beer optional). Please visit our Yonge Street butcher shop or place an order at Olliffe.ca—home delivery is available to local customers. We look forward to serving you.
Corned beef and cabbage
Corned beef and cabbage is a classic Irish dish that is savoury, comforting and incredibly flavourful. Olliffe has corned beef brisket available for your convenience—it’s expertly brined and ready for you to cook at home. Serve it with stewed or sautéd cabbage, roasted carrots and/or mashed potatoes. You can also serve your corned beef with colcannon, which is a delicious combination of mashed potatoes and sautéd cabbage. Here’s a great recipe if you'd like to try it.
Irish stew with soda bread
There’s nothing like a flavourful, comforting bowl of homemade stew served with fresh bread (and a pint of Guinness, if you’re feeling festive). St. Patrick’s Day or not, we love this kind of meal. You can make your stew with lamb or use our tender, delicious stewing beef. Here’s a great recipe for Irish stew and another one for soda bread. Not into stew? Try these savoury steak and ale pies instead. They’re ready to heat and serve.
Pot roast with root vegetables
A traditional beef pot roast with root vegetables is a delicious St. Paddy’s Day dish. Place some roughly chopped heirloom carrots and parsnips in the pot so they cook in those flavourful beef juices, then serve it all over a scoop of creamy mashed potatoes. You can also cook some baby potatoes in the pot and skip the mashed. We’d enjoy this dish any day of the week! Here’s a recipe to inspire you.
Boxty with sliced bacon
Boxty is an Irish comfort food that’s similar to a pancake in appearance. It’s made with grated raw potatoes and mashed potatoes, making it fluffier than a latke or a rosti, but with a similar flavour profile. Serve your boxty with sliced pork bacon for a savoury, delicious meal that’s Irish-inspired. This one is usually a hit with younger family members—you can get the recipe here.
Gourmet prepared options from Olliffe
If you’re more into celebrating than cooking up an Irish-inspired feast, consider picking up some gourmet prepared options from your local butcher. Here’s our St. Patrick’s Day menu—it’s available now and will continue to be available until March 18th. Walk-ins are welcome but for large orders, please call ahead!
