What to eat this Valentine’s Day and Family Day weekend
With Valentine’s Day on the calendar tomorrow and Family Day coming up on Monday, it’s safe to say that love is in the air. That’s worth celebrating in all of its forms, whether it’s the love you share with your partner or the love you feel for your kids, parents, grandparents and friends.
If you’ll be preparing a delicious meal in honour of the people you love, here are a few ideas from Olliffe to get you started. If you’d like any assistance finding a product or placing an order, please contact us—we’d be glad to help. Thanks as always for shopping local, and have a wonderful long weekend.
Valentine’s Day meal ideas
Valentine’s Day is the perfect excuse to indulge in a delectable tomahawk steak. This gorgeous cut of Ontario beef is generously portioned, so it typically serves two people. Serve it with baked or mashed potatoes, roasted vegetables with a drizzle of balsamic reduction, and/or your favourite side salad. Don’t forget a nice bottle of red wine and an elegant dessert to finish the meal. Other options for Valentine’s Day include these beef tenderloin steaks from VG Farms, mouth-watering prime rib steaks, whole chickens for roasting, herb-marinated lamb chops, tender osso bucco or a prime T-bone steak.
Family Day food inspiration
If you’re cooking for a crowd, a traditional roast dinner is an excellent choice for Family Day. Consider a beef top sirloin roast, Tamworth pork rack roast, a bone-in turkey breast or a standing rib roast from VG Farms. We recommend having a variety of family-friendly side dishes such as mashed potatoes, buttered egg noodles or rice, roasted carrots or parsnips, steamed broccoli, peas and other favourites. You can also prepare a large salad (Caesar is usually a hit with both kids and adults). For dessert, consider brownies and ice cream—if you add sprinkles for the kids, it will feel extra special.
